The Artist
Gregory Scaff was born in 1961 to Robert Scaff, a computer programmer, and Jacqueline, a fashion model. Primarily self-taught, Gregory has painted from an early age.
Clearwater High School, Florida. Marooned on an island. The University of South Florida. Dream Quest: Nassau, Amsterdam, Budapest, the Arctic. Gauguin, Derain, Renoir, Frazetta. Anthropology, Diogenes. Galleries, art festivals, poetry readings. Psychiatric counselor, gallery manager. Conventions, art shows, www.SuccubusArts.com .
Revelling in acrylic paint as an incandescent medium, Gregory paints both figures and abstracts with a clear and original artistic purpose. He is an edgy, visionary artist stylistically inspired in his figurative works by the Fauves and the Post-Impressionists. Gregory often paints subjects from mythology, from the future, or from the fetish imagery of the sexual underground.
In Gregory’s Abstract Expressionist paintings, he expresses the validity of Being, by incorporating the stuff of the body- sperm, hair, and blood, directly onto the canvas. The passionate, seemingly random, Dadaesque process of splattering the paint and fluids, in a method similar to Jackson Pollock, is as important as the finished piece.
A sex positive advocate in his art, Gregory delights in the incandescent holiness of flesh. Through his paintings, Gregory explores Pagan themes of politics, sexuality, liberation, and Alternative lifestyles.
The care and research he puts into creating his acrylic paintings are reflected in their craftsmanship. Gregory’s works are in the collections of satisfied fine art customers coast to coast and internationally.
